MERCOSUR

For citizens of MERCOSUR member countries, the following must be taken into account:
  • There is a Single Traffic Regulation on Road Safety (Resolution No. 8/92 of the Common Market Group). This enables the licenses issued by the Member States of MERCOSUR to circulate, without the need for prior processing, for tourism trips (under the conditions established in Resolution GMC No. 35/02, approved in Argentina by General Resolution AFIP No. 1419/2003-.1).
  • Likewise, according to Art. IV-9, "the signatory countries of this Agreement will recognize the national driver's license issued by any of the contracting parties".
Drivers of vehicles registered in MERCOSUR countries that circulate in Argentina or in any MERCOSUR member country must have the following documentation:
  • Valid identity document to circulate in MERCOSUR.
  • Brazil: Civil Identity Registry, Identity Card issued by each Federation Unit with National validity, Foreign Identity Card issued by the Ministry of Justice, or Passport.
  • Paraguay: Identity Card (for nationals and foreigners with permanent residence) or Passport.
  • Ecuador: Citizenship Card (for residents) or Passport.
  • Uruguay: Identity Card (for nationals and legal resident foreigners) or Passport.
  • Peru: National Identity Document, Passport or Immigration Card.
  • Bolivia: Identity Card, Foreign Resident Card or Passport.
  • Venezuela: Identity Card (for nationals and permanent migrants) or Passport.
  • Driver's license issued by a member country (or associated state party) of MERCOSUR.
  • Be within a period of 1 year from the time you entered the country.
