Milena Osorio
Milena Osorio is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist with over 20 years’ humanitarian experience in designing and implementing mental health programs to assist victims of armed conflict, violence and emergencies. For the last 12 years she has been working at the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), leading and providing technical support to a global team of mental health professionals working in humanitarian settings. Her current role with ICRC focuses on enhancing the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s response to mental health and psychosocial needs, in close collaboration with Movement partners.
Prior to her work at ICRC HQ, Milena worked for many years to provide mental health support to people in need in conflict hotspots all over the world. Milena is originally from Colombia where she began working to help victims of the conflict, which inspired her to study further human rights and gender. She specialized in the implementation of humanitarian mental health programs for victims of violence and sexual violence. She has also implemented programs to support relatives of missing persons, war wounded and separated family members, among many other vulnerable groups from diverse socio-cultural contexts.
