The national government received the head of the CIA.
It had been 14 years since the head of the agency had last visited Argentina. The official was received by the Chief of Staff, Nicolás Posse, the intervenor of the AFI, Silvestre Sívori, and the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, to advance a common work agenda on intelligence and counterterrorism.
William J. Burns, head of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States, shared a working meeting on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Federal Intelligence Agency (AFI) with the intervenor, Silvestre Sívori. Later, he visited Casa Rosada, where he was received by Nicolás Posse, along with the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich. Also present was the United States Ambassador to Argentina, Marc Stanley.
The arrival of the high-level official from the US government is part of a common work agenda between the two countries on intelligence and counterterrorism. Collaboration between the CIA and the new leadership of the AFI had its first milestone in January of this year when Posse and Sivori visited the Central Intelligence Agency offices in Washington.
One of the objectives of the new management at the helm of the AFI is to strengthen cooperation relations with international agencies. The last visit to Argentina by the highest-ranking official of the US Central Intelligence had been in February 2010, 14 years ago.
