As a result of the merger The Walt Disney Company – Twenty-First Century Fox, INC., the National Commission for the Defence of Competition made the recommendation of disinvestment and the Secretariat of Domestic Trade confirmed the decision.
As a consequence, Disney sold the live main sports contents of Fox basic monthly subscription and the brand Fox Sports.
The company entering the market is MEDIAPRO, leader in the European audiovisual industry. MEDIAPRO’s initial annual investment to enter the Argentine market is around 30 million dollars in order to get the rights granted by Disney.
The CNDC will monitor the compliance of behavioural remedies established on Disney as regards the trade of TV signals in Argentina. Those remedies state requirements on trade and bundles conditions which diminish the portfolio effects that the merger could raise, even after the disinvestment, and for the term of five years.
The deconcentration and remedies imposed by the CNDC benefit more than 8 million Argentinians who are subscribed to the pay TV service in Argentina.
The CNDC keeps on working to support market competition and to protect the general economic interest and the consumers welfare.
